"To speak practically and as a citizen, unlike those who call themselves no-government men, I ask for, not at once no government, but at once a better government. Let every man make known what kind of government would command his respect, and that will be one step toward obtaining it."
- Henry David Thoreau (1849)
About Us
We are a group of people who want to make a difference in Fairhaven, Massachusetts. Some of us were advocates for renovating the Rogers and Wood schools so that they may continue to serve the children of their respective neighborhoods. What many of us discovered through our experience in the school process is that there is an abuse of political power in town. Our public trust in our elected and appointed leaders has been trampled upon too many times to call these incidents isolated.
As our awareness was raised about the lack of transparency and seemingly intentional tactics aimed to keep the public voices quiet about wrongdoings, we heard that others also felt the same way. Here is our opportunity to make needed changes to preserve the integrity and freedom of Fairhaven.
Please look through the information here and become involved in your town. There is strength in awareness, action, and numbers.
It is time to correct the imbalance of power. Our country's forefathers have declared our right to do so and warned us against not doing so!

“…why is a town the size of Fairhaven still using a three-person select board? No wonder townfolks think minority viewpoints are invisible.”

"Dr. Bowcock, on the other hand, left one of his signature
nasty phone messages, with veiled threats, demanding
that I apologize and run a correction.
He will get neither. I have nothing to apologize for. His
behavior was despicable and I have a right to say so."

"Regardless of whether Mr. Osuch is legally right or wrong about giving notice; he and the Board of Selectmen are 100 percent wrong ethically. They could have given notice if they chose to do so, but they clearly prefer to keep us all in the dark. Their underhanded behavior violates the most fundamental principle of open and honest government. Their feckless actions demonstrate that they are not worthy of the public trust vested in these offices."

"For too long, my town [Fairhaven] has been driven from a vision provided by those who are blind to their community and deaf to their constituents. ...unfortunately we have a local government led by people who lack any understanding. They govern through ego, ignorance, and arrogance. This is not the way it should work."

"Fairhaven selectmen and all locally elected officials in every community should find a simple lesson in all this: If you want people to support something you wish to accomplish, you must invite them into the discussion from the start. If you don't, they will dig in their heels and fight you every step of the way — as they should when government at any level behaves arrogantly.
Call it Democracy 101."

"[Selectman Bowcock] also complained about the cost of the Special Town Meeting held on Feb. 15."
"To some, it's maybe amusing, but to those of us who take government seriously, it's not very amusing."

(FairAction Note: Selectman Bowcock apparently believes that intelligent people in Fairhaven waste their time trying to change our arrogant and unresponsive government to "amuse" themselves. If he is taking government "seriously", we definitely aren't amused. Unfortunately, lately the joke has been on his constituents anyway.)
